NEOWA's 2026 Annual Meeting & Scholarship Banquet
NEOWA’s 2026 annual meeting was held Saturday, April 18 at the SIG Sauer Academy and shooting range facility in Epping, NH.
Early-arrivers were treated to a tour of the premises, including multiple indoor shooting ranges, a large retail area with all of SIG’s civilian firearms on display and for sale, and a museum that celebrates and displays the company’s long tradition of producing precision firearms.
Upstairs, the Board of Directors met and elected Denny Corriveau as the 2026 - 2027 president; and Will Lund as vice president.
At the subsequent membership meeting, Ellie Horwitz was re-elected as Secretary, and Matt Dunlap was re-elected as Treasurer. New board members were also elected for various terms.
Twelve students were awarded generous $5,000 scholarships, and those in attendance (often accompanied by proud family members) spoke of their appreciation.
The meeting was a great way to bring the past year of NEOWA to a close and embark on a new year.
Mark your calendars for NEOWA's 2027 meeting, which will be held in April. More info coming soon!
NEOWA's 2025 Annual Meeting & Scholarship Banquet
NEOWA’s 2025 Annual Meeting and Scholarship Banquet was a tremendous success.
Outdoor writers from eight states gathered in Jackson and North Conway on the weekend of April 4th-6th for their annual meeting.
New England Outdoor Writers Association, which has been active for more than 80 years, consists of writers and outdoor communicators who cover fishing, hunting and other outdoor pursuits. These individuals hail from Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York and New Jersey.
“We are excited to be holding our annual meeting in Jackson,” said association president Denny Corriveau. “Last year we met in Kennebunkport, Maine, but I like to schedule our events in different locations, to remind our members of all the great natural resources offered in all the states throughout New England.”
The group kicked off the weekend on Friday night with a pizza feast at Flatbread Company, at the Eastern Slope Inn in North Conway, where they enjoyed tastings of ale and craft liquors made with flavor infusions from nature (spruce tips, goose, beaver, venison, trout, blueberries) with representatives of Tamworth Distillery and Moat Mountain Brewery.
On Saturday, the annual meeting and banquet was held at the rustic Iron Mountain Room, at the Red Fox Bar & Grill in Jackson. Saturday evening members had a chance to enjoy comradery and dinner at the Shannon Door Pub before a Sunday morning departure.
“Outdoor writing has changed dramatically in the past decade,” explained Corriveau. “Although many of our members are involved in print and broadcast media, a growing number also communicate to their readers through websites, blogs, podcasts and social media platforms. This meeting helps members celebrate their outdoor passions, network and learn from each other the best ways to continue getting out the message about the importance of tradition, skill and safety while engaging in activities in the woods and on the water”.
At this year’s banquet, NEOWA gave $3,000 scholarships to individuals from block colleges within six New England states who are pursuing career paths aligned with the outdoors; some of which include outdoor biology and conservation themes. Attendees also heard presentations from former NH Fish & Game Lt Wayne Saunders, producer of “Warden’s Watch” podcast, followed by a panel discussion titled “Next Generation – Today’s Use of Outdoor Technology.”
A memorable weekend was enjoyed by all, and many NEOWA members have expressed interest in returning to Mount Washington Valley to explore all it has to offer.
